GeCrypto has partnered with Georgian auto blogger Mate Rochikashvili. Mate takes cars everyone else has written off and brings them back to shape: in May his team revived a drift-built Subaru BRZ, and in July they put together a car for a proper death race. We backed both projects, and for the July episode Mate stopped by our Marjanishvili office and shot the ad segment right where deals happen every day.
An auto blogger was a deliberate choice. A huge flow of cars runs through Georgia: they arrive from US auctions and Europe, get fixed up, and move on to buyers in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Tens of thousands of vehicles worth billions of dollars pass through the country every year. USDT has become the payment method of choice in these deals: a transfer between countries takes minutes and costs less than a bank wire. At the end of the chain, though, the stablecoin still has to become dollars or lari to pay the seller. Mate's audience lives in exactly this world: his viewers buy and resell cars, and they need an exchange that is fast and legal.
